Local to Scarborough
Many Toronto homes were built before 1960, so plumbers here regularly deal with cast-iron and clay sewer lines, tree roots in the lateral, galvanized supply pipes and older homes that still have a lead water service. The City of Toronto runs a Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program that can help pay for a backwater valve or sump pump. Check the city’s website for current amounts.
